Diving, fish and Boats, Oh MY!!

Apparently my blog is being flagged as spam... but im trying to get that taken care of... otherwise, heres the next post!!

SSSSSSSssssssssssssssooooooooo, since the last time I updated this thing, I have gotten a little more practice at tying up the boats (and tying my knots). For the most part i have found myself on either the 36' boat (the Discovery) or the 46' boat (the Endeavour i believe) helping with lines or actually diving, as was the case yesterday on the Discovery and today on Atlantis (one of the two 26' boats... on a side note, if you havent noticed all the boats are named after space expeditions). In addition to the diving, which i will talk about in a second, I actually got to get behind the wheel of the 46 footer to steer and learn how to use the boat a little... "just in case i am surface support and the boat comes free of the mooring or somethin and i have to get it back there..... teehee... it was soooooo much fun!! all two minutes of it were fantastic, haha.

Anyways, the diving has been fantastic... the visibility has not been incredible, though i had been imagining it as crystal clear, which it was bound to NOT be, so i had too high of expectations on that front. But the life is awesome, fish everywhere, soft corals everywhere!!! Yesterday we went to a site called Airplane/Coral Gardens which was the remains of an old fuselage from a wreck that happened on one of the airport runways and sits in about 45 or so feet of water... the second spot we dove was called "Seal Dog Island" part of a series of islands called the Dog Islands, so named apparently because a long long long time ago before we killed them all, there used to be caribbean monk seals around there. In any case, we basically dove the circumfrence of this little tiny island, lots of life, HUGE lobsters. Today we went to a site called the "Tip O' Scrub" which is the tip of Scrub Island. Apparently its not frequently dived, and its fantastic. The surface was a bit choppy, but it was nice and calm down below, and tho the viz wasnt that great, that didnt stop me from seeing, appart from the craploads of fish and crabs: a barracuda, a spotted eagle ray, and two manta rays! Unfortunately i didnt get any good pictures of the rays because the first was too far away and up near the surface. The second one and the spotted eagle ray surprised me at almost the same time, and unfortunatly the camera was set on macro mode so I couldnt focus properly on either. Oh well... c'est la vie. Hopefully i will have m opportunities to see them, though apparently it is fairly uncommon to see Mantas, or Devil Rays as they are called here. Guess maybe i got lucky. Ahhhh.... oh, and here are some pictures!!! YAY!

Anna, Looks like you're having a blast! Awesome to see 2 manta rays already. Diving here has only been okay... rough south-side seas... viz was as bad as 6ft at Kewalo pipe yesterday.

Keep it up!
